Crate

Your record crate,
wherever you play.

Flick through your records in 3D. Drop the needle. Hand the iPad round at a party, play every room in the house, and take the whole crate with you when you leave.

Crate Mode

Dig, like you would at the shop.

Your records stand in a 3D crate, covers facing you. Flick through them with a thumb, pull one out to read the sleeve, put it back where it came from. Every record carries its key, BPM, energy and your notes.

On the deck

A turntable you can actually ride.

The record lands on a 3D deck and the tonearm drops onto it. Pitch it up or down with the fader, and keep Master Tempo on so the key stays put while the tempo moves.

Now Playing

Full screen on the iPad.

Prop the iPad up and the record playing fills the screen: the cover, the time left, what's next and the EQ. A record without a cover gets a die-cut sleeve of its own, with the label set in type: artist, title, key, BPM, year, Side A, 33⅓.

Sleeves

Every record has a cover.

Real artwork where it exists, in high resolution. Where it doesn't, a printed sleeve in one of eight colours, with the vinyl showing through the hole.

Party

One queue. Everybody's records.

Start a party and friends add records from their own phones. Taps add to the queue and never interrupt the record that's playing; "Play now" and "Skip" ask first. Records crossfade into each other. Lock the iPad so settings, rooms and ratings stay yours. It works at home on the speakers, or on one iPad anywhere.

Rooms

Every room in the house.

Crate plays through your Sonos speakers. Group rooms together in one tap, and Crate warns you before it takes over the TV's sound. Shape the sound with the EQ and bass trim, with presets for headphones, the car and a phone speaker, remembered per record if you like.

Sets & crates

Build the night before the night.

Put sets together that blend: key, BPM and energy are right there. Keep crates for anything, and smart crates that fill themselves, like this year's Halloween party.

Discover

Find what's already in your crate.

"Today I feel like…" picks from your own genres, weighted to what you rarely play. Rediscover the records you added and never played. See what sounds like the record on the deck, and what real DJs have played next to it, from published mix tracklists.

How it works

  1. Your library, in the cloud. Your records and their artwork are kept privately in the cloud, so the crate opens anywhere, on any iPad, phone or Mac browser.
  2. At home, it uses home. When you're on your own network, Crate plays through your Mac and your speakers, rooms and all.
  3. Away, it streams. Somewhere else, the same crate streams straight to the iPad or phone in your hand, with the EQ built into the stream.
  4. Sign in once. Google sign-in. Add Crate to your home screen and it opens like an app.

FAQ

Who can use Crate?

Crate is invite-only for now. Sign in with the Google account you were invited with.

What do I need?

An iPad, iPhone or a computer with a current browser. Sonos rooms and home playback need the Crate app running on a Mac at home.

Does it work away from home?

Yes. Away from home, the crate streams from the cloud to the device you're holding, so party mode on one iPad works anywhere with a connection.

Can guests change my settings at a party?

No. Lock the iPad when you start the party: guests can add records and see the queue, while settings, rooms and ratings stay hidden.

Where does the artwork come from?

From your own library first, then public cover databases. If nothing matches, Crate prints a sleeve for the record.

Is my library private?

Yes. Your music and data live in private storage, reachable only after you sign in. See the privacy notice.
